1984 - George Orwell was an English writer who created the book called Nineteen Eighty-Four aka 1984. The book is about life in an authoritarian regime as lived by a man named Winston Smith who was an intellectual worker at the Ministry of Truth,and his degradation when he runs afoul of the totalitarian government of Oceania, the state in which he lives in the year that he presumes is 1984. the novel, despite its name, was released in 1949; it has been put into sixty-two languages. Nineteen Eighty-Four has been banned in some countrys, challenged in others and hated in many more. Other books have also been of a dystopia nature and have got alot of scrutiny some of these include Brave new World by Aldous Huxley, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury and WE by Yevgeny Zamyatin; WE is thought to have influenced George whilst he was writing 1984. In 2005 TIME magazine listed 1984 as one of the greatest 100 english language novels published since 1923.

Nineteen Eighty-Four has really hit into mainstream culture since the arrival of T.V shows in the UK called Big Brother whos' slogan is 'Big brother is Watching You.' That show has now went to nearly every continent on Earth. In todays society there are more CCTV camaras than ever watching us, the chance of ID cards. It seems that todays goverment are answerign a higher power and that power is thought to be a NWO type group of indivivuals who crave total power. Conspiracy buffs have started to qoute the book and people like Alex Jones making movies saying that Nineteen Eighty-Four is the answer.
