Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was an Archduke, but is more remembered for his assassination.

Assassination

According to the official story, he was assassinated by Gavrilo Princip. This caused Austria-Hungary to invade Serbia, where the assassin was allegedly from. Russia then stepped in and declared war on Austria. Germany then declared war on Russia, then France on Germany, and very quickly the stew of alliances became World War 1.

Suspicious Circumstances of his death

• The eyewitness' testimonies don't match.
• Someone tried to throw explosives at his car. He survived and had evaded the assassins. He would have lived, had his driver not "accidentally" driven into a dead end where another assassin happened to be.
