Collapse of WTC 7From TinWiki.orgThe History of WTC 7 Building The original 7 World Trade Centre was a 47-story building, designed by Emery Roth & Sons, with a red granite façade. The building was 610 feet (186 m) tall, with a trapezoidal footprint that was 330 ft (101 m) long and 140 ft (43 m) wide. Tishman Realty & Construction managed construction of the building, which began in 1983. In March 1987, the building opened, becoming the seventh structure of the World Trade Centre. The building was constructed above a Con Edison substation that had been on the site since 1967. The substation had a caisson foundation designed to carry the weight of a future building of 25 stories containing 600,000 sq ft (55,700 m²). The final design for 7 World Trade Centre was for a much larger building covering a larger footprint than originally planned when the substation was built.
The collapse of WTC 7 (also called Building 7 or the Solomon Building) on September 11, 2001, When the North Tower Collapsed, Debris hit the WTC7 causing some damage to South Side of the building. The Lower part of the buildings south side was heavily damaged by debris from the North Tower. Damage to WTC 7 was from the 8th to the 18th floors. The building was fitted with a sprinkler system but had many weak points in its system which meant it had to manually activated. Once the North tower had collapsed, fire-fighters went into WTC 7 in order to search for survivors, also to attempt to extinguish many small pockets of fires. During that afternoon fires were reported on floors 6–10, 13–14, 19–22, and 29–30. Fires between floors 7-9 and 11-13 were burning out of control. At around 14.00 it is reported that fire-fighters reported a wall 'bulging' in the South West Corner of WTC 7. At around 15.00 New York Fire Dept.. Chief Daniel Nigro halted rescue operations and searches of the debris field of WTC 7 and evacuated the area because of concerns about the structural stability of the building and the safety of NYFD personnel working in the area. At 17.30 EDT on the 11th September 2001 World Trade Centre 7 Collapsed. No one was harmed during the collapse of WTC 7 but there are reports of dead bodies in the building prior to the collapse, This was reported by Barry Jennings (Emergency Coordinator - World Trade Centre). Many describe the way the building collapsed as similar to how a controlled demolition occurs. It is of claimed, similarly, that the collapse of the two towers, WTC 1 and 2, seemed like controlled demolition -- which has become one of the central topics of the 911 Truth movement, since controlled demolition is far from what the official explanation says happened.
