Physical cosmology is a branch of astronomy and is concerned about the formation of the universe and it's structures, especially large-scale bodies (i.e. galaxies, clusters and superclusters). Physical cosmology is strongly associated with the time line of the universe and the Big Bang, or the creation and beginning of the physical cosmos. Beside being associated with the formation of the universe and the spider web of galaxy clusters, studies include: dark matter, dark energy, cosmic microwave background, if the laws of physics are the same throughout the universe, if primordial black holes were formed in our universe, the GZK cutoff for high-energy cosmic rays, and whether the general theory of relativity is the accurate theory on gravitation.

Philosiphical/Metaphysical

A branch of philosophy that says that everything in the whole universe happens in space and time. This type of cosmology tries to answer questions such as, "Why does and universe exist and is there a purpose to existence"? and related questions.

Religious

Religious cosmology themes are not supported by scientific cosmology because of the similar theme of creationism. Religious cosmology includes: Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Sinhalese (Sri Lankan beliefs), and Jainism. These religious views share a similar view - that a god or god(s) created and/or maintain the universe we live in.

Esoteric

Similar themes of esoteric cosmology are emanation, involution, evolution, epigenesis, dimensions of existence, levels of spiritual beings, cosmic cycles, yogic , and references to altered states of consciousness. Examples of esoteric cosmologies can be found in modern Theosophy, Gnostics (Gnosticism), Tantra, especially Kashmir Shaivism, Surfism, and Kabbalah.
