Fort MeadeFrom TinWiki.orgFt. Meade, the Installation Management Agency Northeast, is a 5400-acre Army post located in Maryland which plays host to several federal agencies, including the Defense Information School Headquarters and the National Security Agency. Although on the surface Ft. Meade appears to be a military post with government extensions like any other, it is in fact a major player in the intelligence world, and a topic of much conspiratorial speculation.
[edit] Brief HistoryFt. Meade began life as a military installation in September of 1917, one of sixteen camps built to train soldiers during the war against the Central Powers in Europe. It was originally named Camp Meade after Major General George Gordon Meade, whose decisive strategy in the battle of Gettysburg played a major role during the Civil War. The installation trained more than 100,000 troops during World War I, and over 3,500,000 during World War II. On January 1, 1966, Camp Meade became Fort Meade, headquarters for the entire U.S. Army. [edit] OperationsIn 1957, the NSA moved into Ft. Meade's OPS 1, a massive complex which to this day serves as their base of operations. This facility is said to be the hub of Echelon, a government project which monitors a significant portion of e-mail, internet activity, and telephone communications. It is also where all information obtained through the NSA Wiretapping program is routed and coordinated. [edit] SpeculationAlthough a mountain of background can be gleaned about Ft. Meade itself, any information in context to its relationship with NSA operations are classified and available only minutely. It is interesting to note that due to BRAC restructuring, the post will also soon house the Adjudication and Office of Hearing and Appeals Offices, Defense Information Agency and, most notably, the DoD Media Activities Agency. Many believe that Ft. Meade will be a starting point for the New World Order, given the various tendrils of control that span the country, and perhaps the world, from this single nondescript facility in Maryland.
