The Ilkey Moor Alien incident is one of the most controversial close encounter incidents in the United Kingdom's history of alien abductions. The controversy stems from these circumstances: there is wide-spread disbelief in the alien abduction phenomenon, yet in this instance the abductee, Phillip Spencer, was a police officer (someone who is trained to be an expert observer), who also took a photograph of the being he encountered.

The Encounter

The incident occurred on the morning of December 1, 1987. While crossing the Ilkley Moor in the county of Yorkshire, officer Spencer came across a being that he described as being small and humanoid, and green in color. He seemed to have startled the creature, for when he spotted it, it took off running. After a while it stopped and appeared to signal him by raising its arm. At this point Spencer took out a camera and snapped a picture of the alien. At this, the creature ran off once again, disappearing behind a large rock formation. Spencer gave chase, and as he rounded the rocks he reportedly saw a large, gleaming, silver-domed, metallic, disc-shaped craft. At that point it took off flying at incredible speed.

Missing Time

As if this story wasn't strange enough, it was about to get even stranger. Officer Spencer was unable to account for about two hours after the encounter, a classic case of missing time. There were some other oddities also. The photograph he took of the creature was badly blurred. This is a tactic that is often used by hoaxers. However the picture was examined by Kodak Film who determined that the picture and its negative had not been tampered with. Also the compass that Officer Spencer carried with him had now switched polarity, pointing due south.

The Ensuing Investigation

The compass was examined by University of Manchester's Institute of Science and Technology. The conclusion was that the compass could only have reversed polarity in two ways: 1) it was exposed to a strong magnetic field from a powerful magnet, or 2) it was exposed to a rapidly fluctuating magnetic field produced by enormous amounts of electricity. The University thought that both of these scenarios were unlikely to have occurred by happenstance. As for Spencer, things only progressively got worse. He was worried about the two missing hours. He was also having nightmares every night, nightmares in which little doctors would surround his naked body on a cold steel table and perform medical experiments on him.

Hypnotic Regression

Spencer decided to undergo hypnotic regression to try and recount the two hours that were missing from his life. The sessions produced some stunning results. He recalled being in a large room surrounded by creatures who were around four feet tall and had large black eyes and pointed ears. They also had three fingers on each hand, which he described as being fat, like sausages. They examined him with some type of illuminating device. Then he was shown horrifying images of the earth's enviornmental destruction. He claimed also to have been given some other information, which he will not discuss.
