The Indigo Children are generally described as young people who don't quite fit into normal society, have special 'powers', and will be essential to saving or advancing Earth in a soon-to-come crisis.

Introduction

The Indigo aspect stems from the person's possession of an aura (visible only to other people with psionic powers) that is Indigo in colour; the implication being that it is unique from other aura colours.

While there are many criteria listed qualifying a person as an Indigo Child, there is no official list. On some lists, the qualities are said to be contradictory to one another and often extremely vague. It is stated that the Indigo Childrens' generation entered the world between the 1960s-1980s.

It has been proposed that the characteristics that are used to identify Indigo Children are merely those of people with Attention-Deficit-Disorder, Attention-Deficit-Hyperactive-Disorder, or Asperger's Syndrome.

Unique characteristics and purpose

Indigo Children are said to have a panorama of supernatural abilities, including extra-sensory perception (ESP) and enhanced creativity and intellect.

Many believe there is a certain purpose for the arrival of the Indigo Children. It may involve aliens, supernatural beings, or cosmic accidents which threaten the survival of mankind. The Indigo Children's purpose, according to some, is to prevent this destruction and, in fact, move humanity to a 'higher' level of existence.
