Internal Revenue ServiceFrom TinWiki.orgThe Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is a part of the United States government which, among other things, collects tax money from U.S. citizens. Some say the IRS does not have the support of United States laws to collect tax from citizens, and challenges against the IRS are of interest to a number of people, including conspiracy theorists.
[edit] HistoryThe IRS was created in 1862 by president Abraham Lincoln whilst the Civil war was going on. It was set up to pay for war expenses, not much has changed. This organization was created to enforce these taxes named for the internal revenue to be collected. The IRS also operates three computer centers in various locations around the country. The main headquarters building of the IRS is located at 1111 Constitution Avenue, NW in Washington, D.C., near the Old Post Office. The main building belonging to the IRS had to be closed in June of '06 due to unforeseen heavy flooding. About 95% of electrical and maintenance equipment in that building was damaged.
