InternetFrom TinWiki.orgThe Internet is a global network of computer networks. Its origin is an American military and university network called ARPANET, but it has developed much and is, since the 1990s, in use by many businesses and in private homes, and is rivaling technologies such as radio and television. At first, communication was done through Usenet and news groups, BBS bulletin board systems, and e-mail. A number of other Internet uses have become very popular, like WWW and HTML documents ("the web"), IRC chat "rooms", Instant Messaging, telephone software, video conference software, file sharing, multiplayer games, and many more. The developed world relies heavily on the Internet. This raises many issues of both personal and national safety. Identity theft has become a problem, along with more normal privacy issues, and even warfare like activities are said to be waged by some countries using the Internet. The current method of communication over the Internet is underway to be replaced by a more powerful method, which is said to have the capability to give a unique IP address to each grain of sand on planet Earth. This means that every house hold applience, and every commodity, can potentially be present with its own identity on the future Internet, to be controlled and tracked. See alsoExternal links
