Israel is a country, located in the Middle East, that lies on the eastern edge of the Mediterranian Sea. Israel has a population of about 7.28 million people, most of who are Jews. It is in fact, the worlds only Jewish state. In 1947 the United Nations declared that the Land of Palestine should be partitioned into two independent states, one jewish and another arab. The Arab League disapproved of the motion. However, in 1948, Israel declared its independence. Subsequently Israel won a war with its arab neighbors, and expanded its borders. Since then there has been an almost non-stop cycle of violence in the region.

Terrorism

The United States is a major ally of Israel and this has, in part, been the cause of much hatred and hostility towards the US by arab states and kingdoms.
