John Titor, also known as Timetravel_0, was an online personality who claimed to be a time traveler from the year 2036.

He made his first announcement in 1998 in form of a fax to Art Bell warning him of the oncoming Y2K disaster. He reappeared in early November of 2000 on a few different Internet discussion boards under the name Timetravel_0, the name John Titor was not used until January of 2001 when he began posting on Art Bell's forums.

Titor remained online discussing his mission and how his life was in 2036 until March 24, 2001 when he announced he will be leaving our time and returning to 2036. He has never been heard from again but will seemingly never be forgotten.

Reason for traveling to the year 2000

In 2036 John Titor is a serving soldier in the United States who was assigned to a government time travel project.

Titor was sent back in time (1975) to get an IBM 5100 Portable Computer. It was one the first portable computers made and it has the ability to read the older IBM programming languages in addition to APL and BASIC. The future needs the computer to "debug" various legacy computer programs in 2036. Titor was chosen for the mission because his grandfather was directly involved with the building and programming of the 5100.

Claim of events between 2000 and 2036

Titor’s layout of future events begin in 2004 where he claims that a U.S. civil war will start. While the war will not be full blown he mentions that there will be civil unrest with “Waco” type events happening monthly and steadily getting worse until the war is full blown sometime in 2005. He mentions that the loss in western stability effects Israeli/Palestine relations. By 2008 everyone will realize that the world they thought they were living in was over. The U.S. civil war continues to escalate and will be fought across the U.S. by 2012.

The civil war ends in 2015 but the fighting continues as WWIII begins.

Titor states that in 2015 Russia launches a nuclear strike against the major cities in the United States, China and Europe. He said that the War does not last long but the “mop up” lasts for many years.

Description of living in 2036

Technology

During the war EMPs took out a great number of electronic devices making them useless. This was isolated to the cities that were attacked by the Russians with nuclear warheads. Technologies are not lost but some of the older tools and techniques have been lost. Many things like type writers, bicycles, sailboats and hand tools are valued a great deal.

Cameras that use film are pretty much a thing of the past. Only dedicated artists use film in 2036. Telephones are all serviced over the web or voice over IP. A type of cell phones are used but Titor doesn’t clarify how they are different. Cars are still around but not that many; they are mostly used for sport. Turbo trains and other public transportation take people from city to city. Airlines are in operation but not that many.

Computers are more reliable and efficient. Processor speed, memory size, and bandwidth take dramatic leaps forward.

Most of the energy in 2036 comes from solar power. At the household level, there is also steam, hydro and inversion generation. There is a debate going on where some people want to use a singularity to generate power.

Entertainment

Entertainment in Titor’s 2036 is a little different from that of today. Community living is a big part of life in 2036 and has a big influence on entertainment. They celebrate much more and have bonfires and dances. Most forms of entertainment are locally based and/or obtained via the internet. Movies or “Television” for example are mostly produced locally and viewed over the internet. The movies of 2036 are not like the million dollar block busters of today. Music is also produced in the same manner. Super star celebrities are a thing of the past. Music is much more of a personal experience. More people know how to read music and play together in small groups. Books are very popular and new literature is still being published.

John Titor recalls a poem from the future.

A Soldier’s Winter The day before it wasn’t snowing. The trees are strangers, leering, disapproving in the ash of winter ..my world, my life, my wandering path. I pray God’s eyes may once again gaze upon me and remind me that I am still His child. I only (think) I remember the first line but the last one I remember. It has quite a few more lines that I don’t remember. It is rumored this was written first as a letter by a soldier. After he died it was added to and edited by others. In my opinion, it has become a symbol for the collective guilt my parents’ generation feels for what became of the world.

Culture

Community plays a huge role in the culture of Titor’s 2036.

Most entertainment is community driven. Communities live closely like a large family. Due to events that took place in the American civil war and WWIII there are many orphans and sterile adults. This has brought survivors closer together and people look out for each other. The war has pretty much eliminated racial and religious discrimination. A person is judged on their willingness to contribute to the community and not insignificant things like sexual orientation or skin color. All individuals support the community. If they don’t, the community stops supporting them and they are forced to change their attitude or move away from the community.

There are no more large industrial complex creating masses of food and recreational items. Food and livestock is grown and sold locally. Living is hard and people need to work long hours to provide for their families and community. Everyone pulls together to keep the community strong.

People are more personable spending much more time reading and talking together face to face. As a community, they celebrate much more and have bonfires and dances. They dress up any chance they get and enjoy living. Everyone has seen so much death and despair that people have come to understand what is important in life.

Sports are still enjoyed just as they are today. The Olympics are no longer played though due to various conflicts. The last Olympic Games took place in 2004 and may resume in 2040.

Everyone is required to have basic military training and provide a period of time for community service. People are very much in survival mode and this reflects on the culture.

Health care

Titor describes 2036’s health care as resembling the “old west.” Hospitals do exist but there is no real organized health care. Doctors are more concerned about things like broken legs, snake bites and delivering healthy babies rather than curing serious diseases. If you get a serious disease, you will die. The average lifespan is about 60 years old and there are many stillborn births due to the radiation left from the war.

Politics

The American political system is very different in Titor’s timeline. The capitol of the U.S. is no longer Washington D.C. it has been changed to Omaha Nebraska. Instead of one president there are 5 that are voted in and out on different term periods. The vice president is the president of the senate and they are voted separately.

The reason the Presidency was split into an office of 5 has 4 main reasons. With 5 Presidents, foreign policy is more consistent, power shifting between parties has less of an impact on the overall government, individual strengths between presidents add to the strength of the overall office, and one president is elected for each major area in the United States. The Republican and Democratic parties are no more. There are over 10 major political parties in Titor’s 2036.

On the worldly scale there are no longer “Global Super powers.” Being a superpower only makes you a target in a world where everyone has nukes, chems or biological weapons.

On timetravel

John Titor traveled to the year 2000 in a Corvette. Within the car was the distortion unit that allows him to time travel. Later he sold the Corvette and got himself a 1987 4WD. He said the vehicle needs a strong suspension system to handle the weight of the distortion unit.

The basic systems for his distortion unit include:

1. Magnetic housing units for dual microsignularities.
2. Electron injection manifold to alter mass and gravity of microsingularities.
3. Cooling and x-ray venting system
4. Gravity sensors (VGL system)
5. Main clocks (4 cesium units)
6. Main computer units (3)

He said that the unit has a ramp up time after the destination coordinates are fed into the computers. An audible alarm and a small light start a short countdown at which point you should be secured in a seat.

Time travel is achieved by altering gravity. Titor said that when you time travel you

feel a tug toward the unit similar to rising quickly in an elevator and it continues to rise based on the power setting the unit is working under. At 100% power, the constant pull of gravity can be as high as 2 Gs or more depending on how close you are to the unit. There are no serious side effects but I try to avoid eating before a flight. No bright flash of light is seen. Outside, the vehicle appears to accelerate as the light is bent around it. We have to wear sunglasses or close our eyes as this happens due to a short burst of ultraviolet radiation. Personally I think it looks like your driving under a rainbow. After that, it appears to fade to black and remains totally black until the unit is turned off. We are advised to keep the windows closed as a great deal of heat builds up outside the car. The gravity field also traps a small air pocket around the car that acts as your only O2 supply unless you bring compressed air with you. This pocket will only last for a short period and a carbon sensor tells us when it's too dangerous. The C204 unit is accurate from 50 to 60 years a jump and travels at about 10 years an hour at 100% power. You do hear a slight hum as the unit operates and when the power changes or the unit turns off. There is a great deal of electrical crackling noise from static electricity.

Regarding the alteration history he said that you do not rewrite history. He described time like a tree. There are different branches that show different ways events could have happened. Every time we decide to do or not to do something time splits. Even if we are not aware we decided something it have affects.

Clues pointing towards a hoax

Clearly the first things that point out that Titor is a hoax is that 2005 is behind us, there has been no civil war, and we have had Olympic Games beyond 2004. Some say that Titor being in our Worldline has changed things and that is why we have not seen the war.

But people were onto Titor before these dates past.

One clue comes from this picture put on the internet by John Titor:

This is a picture taken in the fall of 2035 during my training. It shows my instructor beaming a handheld laser outside the vehicle during operation. The beam is being bent by the gravitational field produced outside the vehicle by the distortion unit. The beam is visible through smoke that is coming from his cigar.

Why is it that the gravitational field is only bending the laser light and nothing else? The gravitational field should be distorting all light in the picture causing everything to look warped. Why doesn't the gravitational field affect the cigar smoke? If something is powerful enough to bend light why does it not bend anything else?

Titor also failed to mention 9/11 or any other major event between 2000 and 2006. He explains much about the American Civil war and WWIII but mentions nothing about the major world changing events we have seen since the year 2000.

All of the information provided was done over the internet through different websites theoretically John Titor could have been several different people.

Larry Haber (the owner of all rights having to do with John Titor) is the only person who has claimed to verify the existence of Titor. However it has been suspected that John Titor is really John Rick Haber (Larry Harber's brother), a computer expert that would have known about the IBM5100s ability to emulate and debug mainframe systems which was a little known fact at the time.
