Light saber

A light saber is a weapon that was popularized through the Star Wars film series.

It is believed that light saber's are a fictional weapon that do not exist. However, they may in fact exist but have not been released to the mainstream, common people.

Design

A light saber consists of a handle, which acts as the hilt, like it does in a knife or sword type of structure. Attached onto the hilt there is believed to be a switch of sorts. The switch's primary duty is to operate the 'light' mechanism, by engaging the light to be turned 'on' or 'off' so to speak.

Once engaged, a beam of light is said to be projected from the hilt. The inner-workings that enable this to occur are currently unknown. What makes the beam of light unique is that, the beam has the ability to end its ray without having to be projected onto a surface, thus the beam projects out of the hilt and ends in mid-air.

Light sabers more than likely have a heat source applied to the beam, like that of a laser, thus making it extremely lethal. Since it is primarily composed of light, it will not dull like that of conventional sabers. However, one can assume that were the hilt to be broken, or damaged the beam may not be able to operate.

There are many questions regarding light sabers that are left unanswered. What is in fact known, suffices to a very little amount.

One interesting aspect of light sabers, is that they have the power to be designed (according to Star Wars) to have the beam in a variety of colors. Including white, blue, red and presumably green, or any other color as well.

Does the color reflect the power of the beam? Do light sabers work underwater? This is all still left unanswered.

Light sabers are tools/weapons of the future, and will be a great advancement in weaponry and science in the years to come.
