How to "Defy Gravity"

If you are lucky enough a gravity hill, or just search the internet for the one closest to you, you can easily test this phenomena yourself. First you stop (preferably at the bottom), and put the car into neutral. Don't press the brakes or accelerator and you will notice the car going about 3-10mph uphill.

Legends of the Hills

Many magnetic hills are accompanied with a paranormal reason on why they work. These explanations or legends, are about how a person or a group of people died and say their spirit(s) push the car uphill. Some people even put powder to see the alleged spirit hands.

Another explanation that is just a myth, is that powerful magnetic forces inside the earth are to blame for the phenomena. Although it may seem like a logical and likely cause, there is no scientific evidence for the claim, only speculation.

Cause

The explanation for the magnetic hill is that it is merely an illusion - but a convincing one at that. When he horizon is obscured by scenery, it is more difficult to tell inclines and your brain will play a trick on you. Also, trees growing on the side of the road to reach maximum sunlight may grow at an angle, giving the impression the street is not the angle you may see it as. The cause is nothing paranormal, just the trick of the eye.
