Possible Explanations

One of the explanations and most popular by skeptics, is the theory that the Marfa lights are just cars headlights on Routes 67 and 90. The 2004 SPS (Society of Physics Students) Investigation concluded that the lights made predictable changes and correlated with the traffic on Route 67.

Other explanations is that the lights are a very rare form of atmospheric phenomena called ball lightening caused by the piezoelectric effect. Another explanation that the lights are mistaken for astronomical objects such as Venus or bright stars.

Other skeptics believe the lights are caused by different temperatures layers, of cold and hot air, creating an illusion or mirage.

Some others believe they could be reoccurring UFOs, but a lot of the so-called believers don't have an explanation for the lights and think paranormal justification could easily be the truth behind the lights.
