The Montauk Project was a series of experiments that were being conducted at Camp Hero, located in Montauk, New York, from the 1940's until the 1980's. Among some of the claims being made are that time travel and mind control were being tested at the base. It is said that young boys and derelicts were abducted and experimented on. Survivors of the project were brainwashed and had their memories erased.

History

The Montauk Project traces its roots back to the Philadelphia Project, otherwise known as the Rainbow Project. In 1943, the US military was experimenting on its ships to make them invisible from radar. Allegedly one ship, the USS Eldridge was actually turned invisible. The theory is that they tried to encase the ship in an "electronmagnetic bottle" to make it undetectable by radar. Instead the ship disappeared and reappeared instantly in Norfolk, Virginia. There were more unexpected side effects from this too. The crew members that survived were all said to have been driven insane. Other crew members were actually fused in the decks and bulkheads of the ship.

Even though it seemed that a major breakthrough had happened, the risk to human life was considered too great by Congress. So the project was shut down. Dr. John von Neumann, who was in charge of the Rainbow Project, was now summoned to go and work on the Manhattan Project. However, it is said that research into the Rainbow Project was continued in the late 1940's.

Description

Even though Congress had said no to continuing with the experiments, the people involved went to the Department of Defense and asked for the funding to continue research. The DOD agreed and the Rainbow Project, now known as Project Phoenix or the Montauk Project, began in earnest. The tests were moved to Brookhaven National Laboratories in Long Island, New York. However it was soon realized that they would need a large radar dish to continue with the experiments. Since this was being carried out in secret, it was considered too much of a security risk to build a dish at Brookhaven. Yet there was a solution close at hand. In Montauk, on the easternmost tip of Long Island, there was a closed Air Force Base called Camp Hero, which had a huge SAGE radar system. The base had been decommissioned, so the project workers found an ideal situation with which to work.

To pay for the project, funding was allegedly obtained from stolen WWII Nazi gold. The location was perfect for the project as well. Camp Hero is a large base and is remote. So equipment could be moved there via the Atlantic Ocean. This was done in the late 1960's. Most of the project would take place underground in a large bunker complex. Some claims have been made that the underground base stretches from Camp Hero to the town of Montauk itself. However this seems very unlikely, as the town is several miles away from the base. There are also claims that the underground base is connected to other parts of the country via an underground high speed train tunnel.

The chair

When personnel first arrived at the base to begin work, there were rumors that when the SAGE radar was activated it could effect the mood of all the people on the base. Thus experiments in mind control began with the radar dish sending out pulses at different frequencies and time intervals. It was soon learned that many emotions could be produced depending on the settings of the equipment being used by the operators. Supposedly, this is where the Montauk chair came into play. The chair was positioned in the complex under the radar, and above another large antenna. This seat was then surrounded by a system of electrical coils, the design of which was based on some of the work of Nikola Tesla and aliens known as Sirians. Coincidentally, it is said that Tesla's death was faked and that he was actually in charge of running the project. This chair was connected to very powerful computers and another transmitter. When a telepath or psychic sat in the chair, it was found that his thoughts could be turned into reality.

If he thought of an object, it would appear on the base. Sometimes it would be solid, sometimes not. Eventually something seemed to be going wrong. The objects were not appearing as they had been. However it was soon learned that the objects were not appearing while the experiment was going on; they were appearing at a later time in different locations. This development led to the theory that time was being bent by the psychic, and that it may be possible to travel through time in this manner. The experiments continued and it was found that not only could people travel through time but space as well. A lot of people were lost this way. A tunnel would be formed that was described as looking something like a vortex. You could step into it in the present, and walk through the tunnel and come out at the other end. Principally derelicts would be used for this purpose, but also young boys were abducted as well to participate in these experiments. If a person did not make it through the tunnel, they were lost in time and space forever, outside of this dimension or universe. But the fact that they were homeless meant that there would not be too much of an investigation into their disappearance.

A trip to Mars

Claims have been made that the chair was used to create a tunnel through space to a complex which exists underneath the so-called pyramid on Mars. There were also claims that technology was used by humans which was given to them by aliens from another planet. Among the aliens involved included beings from Sirius and the Orion constellation.

Ended?

Supposedly the chair operator, in this case a person named Duncan Cameron, created a monster from his thoughts. The monster or beast went on a rampage through the base. Preston Nichols tried to cut the power to the chair, only to find that the chair was being powered through a hole that had been created in time. Preston himself went on a rampage with a welding torch and was able to cut the power off to the chair by destroying some equipment. This was not before the beast had eaten some things and had destroyed at least one building. After this, operations at the base were halted, although some claim that there is still activity at the base. Some even wonder if the chair is still being powered. However this seems very unlikely as the base is now opened as a state park to the general public. Even though the base is open as an attraction, access to the structures are strictly forbidden.

Reptilians

Michelle Guerin claims to have been a victim of mind control at Montauk. She wrote an article called Reptilians at Montauk and described an abduction encounter with military personnel. They captured her and a companion, and were taken to the underground structure. Michelle said she encountered a reptilian creature that she says sexually assaulted her. She was later released.
