Nazi UFOsFrom TinWiki.orgDuring the later phases of World War II and 50s there were numerous reports about strange unidentified flying objects, saucers or "Foo Fighters". Some claim that these were Nazi UFOs and some claim extraterrestrial influence. The truth is still largely unknown, but it is known that the German war machine did have extensive R&D projects which had the goal of producing Wunderwaffe which would enable Germany to win the war. Perhaps the best-known examples of the Wunderwaffe are the vengance weapons V-1 and V-2. These, along with the advanced jet aircraft like Messerschmitt Me-262 and Arado Ar-234 were the only ones produced in quantity which enabled them to be used in combat.
[edit] Actual German flying saucers[edit] The Schriever-Habermohl projectConstruction of these saucers is believed to have started in Prague sometime between 1941-1943. These saucers were jet powered with a diameter of 5-6 meters. The body consisted of a central cockpit surrounded by a disc of rotating and adjustable wing-vanes which formed a circle around the cockpit. Lift was achieved by adjusting the pitch of the vanes, like in a modern helicopter. Flight was achieved by first igniting small rockets placed around the rim of the saucer and when rotational speed was sufficient, lift was generated which enabled the craft to rise from the ground. After that, the rocket engines shut off and horizontal jet engines were engaged to achieve movement. The rotating vanes would keep rotating and generating lift in similar fashion to auto-gyrocopter. Claimed performance was spectacular, climb to 12,400m in three minutes and speed approaching Mach 1 and exceeding that in later flights, official top speed being reported as 2200km/h. [edit] The Miethe-Beluzzo projectThis project was begun in 1942 and is thought to have been outgrown from flying wing research. The team worked in Dresden, Breslau and Letow/Prague, and was under direction and advisement from same people than the Shriver-Habermohl project. The body was again disc-shaped but had a cockpit offset to one side and 12 jet exhaust nozzled spaced evenly around the circumference. No moving parts are visible from the outside, unlike in the Shriever-Habermohl saucer. There are several different designs which are somewhat incompletely described. It's not clear from the drawings how the craft was actually powered. Manned test flight was done in December 1944. This design is said to be the forerunner of post-war Flying Manta design of John Frost, which actually did fly. [edit] Foo FightersFoo Fighter was the name given to unknown phenomenon encountered over European skies by Allied aircraft. These were first reported in New York Times, December 14, 1944. Based on a circular jet engine in a tortoiseshell casing, these Foo Fighters had the ability to locate targets by infrared detection, escape after being hit and generate an ionized field around them which caused airplane engines to misfire and stall. Foo Fighters were also able to evade radar detection by having a Klystron tube pulsing in the same frequency as the Allied radar. These claims are somewhat dulled with the knowledge that the German aircrews and military authorities were thinking them to be an Allied secret weapon.
