Stanley HotelFrom TinWiki.orgBuilt in 1909 by Freelan Oscar Stanley, the Stanley Hotel is one of the most haunted places in the United States, if not, in the whole world. It could quite possibly be considered the most haunted hotel in the US as many witnesses could tell you. More facts include: is a 3 star hotel, has 138 rooms, of Georgian style, 16,000 ft sq. in area, lies next to Rocky Mountain National Park, and is an hour away from Denver.
Location
The Stanley Hotel lies in Estes Park, Larimar County, Colorado. The elevation averages 7,500 ft. above sea level and is situated in the Rocky Mountains. Inspiration for Steven KingThe hotel is the inspiration for Steven King's novel, "The Shining" and then to follow up the book, The Shining was made into a movie in 1980. Mr. King wrote half of his novel in room 217, where a ghost by the name of Ms. Wilson supposedly still lives.
More Popular CultureTAPS, or The Atlantic Paranormal Society conducted an investigation on May of 2006. The Ghosthunters as their show is called investigated a couple of times because they found the hotel to be one of the most haunted places they have ever scrutinized. They heard mysterious voices by personal experience and EVPs, doors shutting and opening, a glass breaking with no apparent logical reason, and much more. HauntingsThe original owners of the hotel, Freelon O. Stanley and his wife Flora Stanley, are thought to still roam the hallways and rooms. They say Mr. Stanley plays the piano and visits the lobby and billiards room. There are many other ghosts who are reported in the hotel ranging from a man in a cowboy hat, to women, and even children playing the hallway - even though no children are registered at the time. The souls stuck in the Stanley are not said to be harmful and/or demonic, but may cause disturbances while you sleep. External Links
