Thoughtform
[e]

Thoughtforms are non-entities formed from focused thought and emotion that can behave as actual entities. They are a product of an intelligent being's power of creative imagination. Thoughtforms have dynamic electrical aspects or psychic energy that may mimic spirit behavior. They fulfill the idea or thought from which they are formed. As such, they will act upon the instructions given to it by the being that created it. With enough energy and focus, they can become elementals.

Formation

As an individual or group concentrate on a particular thought or idea and fuels this with strong emotion, a thoughtform manifests as a life expression. This formation can be intentional or unintentional. Each thoughtform varies according to the individual's focus. A thoughtform may become manifest as in the shape of the individual(s) who created it. They can also be in the shape of a material object, mythical creature, geometric shapes, or some other form of their own.

Some belief systems have established exercises for the creation and control of thoughtforms.

Ensoulment

If an individual focuses with enough energy on a thought or idea, this may cause an image in the mind which in turn becomes a free thoughtform that radiates its own vibration. Such a thoughtform is artificially ensouled, becoming an elemental (known as a tulpa in Tibetan tradition) on the astral plane. As such, it may be able to act under its own will and energies, with the ability to effect the physical realm.

Group mind

Groups may create thoughtforms to promote their ideas. More powerful groups will create stronger througtforms, referred to as group mind. Some groups may use group mind phenomenon to project their influence to manipulate other people or events.

Responsibility for thoughtforms

Those who create a thoughtfrom are karmically responsible for its actions, whether it acts as a result of direct thought or as an elemental. Thoughtforms should be dissipated, dissolved, transmuted, or transformed at some point to avoid troublesome consequences as a result of their actions left unchecked.

Thoughtforms in fiction

  • In the X-Files TV series episode Arcadia, a creature is used by one neighbor to attack another neighbor. It is identified as a tulpa by Mulder.
