The United Nations is an international organization for multiple governments to get together and discuss issues that concern regional problems and problems that concern all nations.

Purpose

Among its activities is to maintain a military presence in conflict areas. It has also issued reports on global warming.


Conflict

Some say United Nations has a religious aspect to it, similar to New Age religiousness. The U.N. is an international organization whose stated aims are to facilitate cooperation in international law, international security, economic development, social progress and human rights issues. The UN replaced the League of Nations around 1945.


Membership

There are currently (2008} 192 member states including almost every recognized independent state. The United Nations consists of The General Assembly, The Security Council, The Economic and Social Council, The Secretariat and The International Court Of Justice. UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund, is also connected to the UN and currently sponsors the Spanish football team Barcelona.
