Requesting member artwork

I am following a suggestion to try and get members to submit original artwork to enhance page such as those in the beasts, legends and myths section. Here is the link to the thread I started. THREAD It seems to be getting a pretty good reaction thus far. All the best. William One Sac 21:32, 22 May 2008 (CDT)

Spaces on the main page

I am glad you figured out what is wrong. I hope it isn't too big a deal for you. The front page really looks great. I am very happy with it. Although I think it could use some minor tweaking, but it really looks good the way it is now. :thumbs up: William One Sac 20:39, 25 May 2008 (CDT)

Main Page

Hello Optimist,

I noticed that you changed some of the colors on the revamp page, which inspired me to make one of the table colors a little bit darker. Anyhow, I think it looks really good. Do you think we have the elements in the right order on that page? I had been meaning to speak to you about this. I am also wondering about the box that is gray, and has some of the categories in it. Do you think we need to improve that, or do you think it is good the way it is? Anyways, I really like the latest changes you made to the tables. Also, thank you for straightening out the code on that page! It is much easier to work with now. William One Sac 10:52, 29 May 2008 (CDT)

You are absolutely right, I should have made the changes on the experimentation page before implementing them on the main page. I just got excited and a little overly enthusiastic I am afraid. The color yellow(ish) should definitely be extended between all of the tables, and I think a lighter shade is called for than what is there right now I am sorry to say. I will do my experimenting on the revamp page from now on. As for the gray box, I think that would be really awesome if we could use an image of crumpled aluminum foil as the background, however I have no idea how feasible that would be. I don't know how that would work with different browser resolutions. So that is definitely something we should consider experimenting on.
As for the order of the elements, I definitely think we should move up the new page, popular pages, image of the week elements, and put them on top of the description table of what tin wiki is. This way visitors do not need to scroll down to find out where all the action is at. :) But the tables would have to come out evenly, not with the tables uneven as they are now, especially in different browser resolutions, as it is now. I have no idea if that is possible. Perhaps we would be better off making the image table 100% again, and then putting the newer pages and popular pages beneath the image table, side by side? I am just rattling off ideas right now, we would really need to work on the image table element if we were going to try and implement this.
As for announcing the changes and trying to get visitors involved with making suggestions, I think this is a wonderful idea. It would be really great if we could get more people involved, although I think anything that is finally agreed upon should be by yourself and me. I have to run out for a little while, I will write more later. William One Sac 12:27, 31 May 2008 (CDT)
REPLY TO OPTIMIST Hi Optimist, I just got through looking at the improvements you made. WOW! It looks really great. I think this new version is much more friendly to look at than the old one. Also, it is really good that you were able to find that discussion about the background images. Maybe it is something we can put on our wishlist for SkepticOverlord for a rainy day. I e-mailed him a few days ago about the problems we are experiencing with the skins page. He said he would look into it, but added that he can't promise us anything as he doesn't remember a thing since the installation. But we can keep our fingers crossed, he is very good at what he does. ;-) As are you. I think that maybe we should put a BORDER AROUND THE BOTTOM TABLE, THE ONE THAT GIVES A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF WHAT TINwIKI is. Sorry about the caps. :-) Also, maybe we can try a little darker the red color on the text at the bottom of the page, the text that describes the revamp that is underway. Other than that I think it looks just wonderful. I think the page looks much more inviting now, and it is good, we can keep visitors up to date right away when they land. I also think it is good for us to think of ways to improve the gray box. I really like the idea of using tinfoil for the background, but since it is not possible to create a table with a background, I think we need to try something else. Because if we used an image there, say one we created ourselves, we don't know how it would be for users with different browsers, resolutions etc... So I think even if we completely delete the gray box to replace it with something better that goes along with the color scheme, then that is what we should do. But that would be a really drastic change for tinWiki, it is a little scary to even think these thoughts out loud. :-) Drink plenty of orange juice and don't catch a chill! William One Sac 21:20, 31 May 2008 (CDT)

Optimist, It looks ready to roll to me. Excellent. When you are ready, would you like to make the changes? William One Sac 22:04, 31 May 2008 (CDT)

adding a terrorism category

Optimist,

I would like your thoughts on something I am considering. How do you feel about adding a terrorism category to tinWiki? My conflict is this, I realize it is not a conspiracy topic, nor is it directly related to the events and conspiracy theories surrounding 9/11/2001. However, I also think that terrorism plays a big part in US policy, for which there are many numerous conspiracy theories. So some certain terroristic acts definitely do provide some background for topics that are written about on tinWiki. However ( :-) ) not all terroristic acts fit that category. I think acts such as the 7/7 bombings, the Madrid attacks, definitely do belong, but other acts should just be generally covered, like terrorism in Israel. So some specific terrorism acts should have articles, but other acts should not, am I making sense?

For example, al-qaeda attacked some US embassys (?) the USS Cole etc... These led up to the 9-11 attacks. So they should have articles written about them. Not great big pages, but just to re-enforce a general background for the 9/11 events. Thats not to say we shouldn't have articles about hologram planes flying into the twin towers, we should. (For example.) You realize, the more I am thinking about this the more I am getting confused. Because if some guy blows himself up in timbuktoo over a disagreement with that governments policies, we don't want an article covering that specific incident.

Maybe the best way would be to make a category that is related to al-qaeda, and is also related to terrorism. So perhaps we can call the categoru "terrorism", but then make a very specific description for that category that only terroristic acts that relate to the current state of world affairs. Which leads to another problem. The US is Israels biggest allies, and it is said that that is a chief reason why the US is targeted. But I don't think that all terristic acts in that country neccesarily need to be written up. Although I wouldn't mind seeing some of the terrorist organizations written about. Maybe just the major ones. Anyhow, I am going way off topic here. And I think I have answered my own question. A terrorism category, with a very specific agenda, that the topics must somehow relate to 9/11, al-qaeda etc... Because we want topics that are within the aim of what tinWiki hopes to achieve, a complete encyclopedia of conspiracy, alternate topics. But we should not limit ourselves in that respect. Which is why I created articles yesterday about Israel and Saudi Arabia. Hmmm... lots of work needs to be done. Anyhow, let me know your thoughts about this, I could be completely off track and wrong. William One Sac 21:48, 31 May 2008 (CDT)

Optimist,
Well, I went ahead and created the category. I also took your suggestion and made 9/11 and Terrorism subcategories within one another. It worked, so that is a good thing. lol By the way, I like the bullets you made on the category page. It makes the topics look much more grounded. :) William One Sac 23:22, 31 May 2008 (CDT)

I appologize

Hi Optimist,

I am sorry, I accidentally deleted your talk page before. I did the same thing to my talk page. All of the page views are gone, but that is all. I am sorry. I am not feeling to great today and I got confused deleting the spam. William One Sac 16:42, 5 June 2008 (CDT)

JKrog here.....

Hey,I edited my articles, also I think I will leave my signature on them(if someone edits that's fine,I just want people to know I had something to do with the page)I have a question, how do I put graphics in my articles???Thanks!!--Jkrog08 20:51, 22 June 2008 (CDT)Justin Krog

New alchemy category

Hey Optimist, I was wondering, do you think it is worthwhile to create a new alchemy category? With some of the new articles, like the philosophers stone etc.. I am not sure how to categorize them, other than alchemy? What do you think? William One Sac 14:01, 26 June 2008 (CDT)

Community portal page

Optimist,

I very much like the changes you have brought to the community portal page. That page has really grown and become something quite spectacular since you started working on it when it was just a stub. You have done really great work on it. The colors look great. I will have to look it over some more, before making any suggestions. I don't know if the page can really be improved at this point, as, like I said, it looks wonderful. If I come up with any suggestions, I will definitely post them here for you. William One Sac 13:06, 28 June 2008 (CDT)

The new templates

Hey Optimist,

How you doing? I just got finished looking at the two new templates you created. Bravo. Bravo! I like both templates very much. The first one is good because it has that triangle with the exclamation point inside. It's like: "Oooh! I better not touch that!" but then it says "Will return" (or something similar) and it makes you feel safe again. Damn those spammers! Too bad we can't make a template that says "Spammers will be shot on sight!"

I also like the second template, although I was a little worried when I first saw it. I think it is okay to group new users as "Newbies," but I don't think we should refer to any specific individual as a newbie. Anyhow, it's all good the way it is, being helpful and offering some good advice to new users.

Anyhow, wonderful work as usual! William One Sac 10:04, 1 July 2008 (CDT)

Align a picture left.

Howdy Optimist, hows it going ? I was hoping that you would be able to tell me how to place a picture on the left of an article instead of it always going to the right.

Thanks In Advance :) Fox 11:44, 9 July 2008 (CDT)

Image description revamp

Hi Optimist,

I wanted to let you know I looked over the image description revamp page that you created. I think it looks really good. I only have one minor issue with one thing. The banner you made asking people remembering to sign their submission is being cut off on my screen for some reason. I use internet explorer, the latest version whatever that is on Windows Vista. I made a little screen shot to show you. It is still readable, and if you think it is okay then I am fine with you leaving it the way it is. I just wanted to let you know in case this isn't an issue in your browser.

Logo text

I think that would be really awesome Optimist. I really like the sample you made. I think it is perfect. I am not really sure how to do it though. Would it be part of the graphic that is already there, or would it be text by itself? (not an image) Thats a really good idea though.

New to this form of editting

Hello, I realize you are busy so I'll make this short. Is there any way I could contact the author of the page Conspiracy against First Gulf War veterans for collaboration before I start restructuring his sentences. There are a few sentences that I have trouble following and some that need referencing or possibly deletion(commenting out).

Hey There.

Optimist,

Thanks for the welcome and reminder you gave me in the ATS thread. I really appreciate it. I've looked at your stuff on here and I look forward to working with you here. I plan on making tinWiki a permanent home for myself.

See you around,

--nYk 10:08, 1 August 2008 (CDT)

Thank you for your kind words

Optimist, thank you for your kind words. I've not set too much up on Wikipedia.org itself. I am a frequent editor on Wikipedia.org and have learned how to emulate some of what appears there. I tool around on another special interest wiki (which is running on a version of wiki from 2006). Do you know if tinWiki.orG software get's updated frequently? If so, the newest version of the wiki software offers some pretty cool tools I could bring over from Wikipedia.org. Palzeta (How's That?, That's How!) 1,000 articles and counting

I was wondering if perhaps we should try and do some improvement to the site for when we reach 1,000 articles. I think it is a significant milestone for us. Do you have any idea on something we can do? Just something for us to think about and prepare for, as we should reach this number of articles pretty soon. William One Sac 22:44, 10 August 2008 (CDT)

table

I've put the table in the following link the word welcome needs to be placed in side the {{ }} and bam ! there's your table.

the mainpage

I just wanted to let you know the mainpage looks great. I don't think we need to play with the colors right now. Everything looks nice and balanced. I really think that the image will cause visitors to scroll down and see what is going on. And after all, that is our goal, to get people interested in the work.William One Sac 21:12, 17 August 2008 (CDT)

Hey Optimist. Thanks for the compliment on the ISS page. I'm probably more confused on the image stuff than anything, so I will go back and add my signature and copyright info. again. I don't know why I deleted it. I am going to change the image soon, that one is too small. I'd also like to add Expedition and Crew info..

Section Deletions

Hey Optimist. What's going on with these sections getting deleted? The same person(?) deleted sections in both my ISS and (new) Aurora Borealis pages. I fixed them both.

Image Desc. page

Hey Optimist. Looks like someone may have gotten to the Image Description page:

...thought you might want to check it out.

Vandal/Spam

Hiyah Optimist and thanks for the message and for the info regarding reverting an edit. I noticed that that was done on the image page so figured there must be a way, that's good to know. And thanks for pointing out the "Special pages". Those are full of great info.

I didn't know what to think about the vandal on my articles. No sooner did I post the Aurora article, bam, three sections gone. Frustrating. And I only noticed the ISS section deleted after reading your message on the discussion page. I only know enough about computers to get by :) but it was weird and seemed all too coincidental. So of course my first thought was "What did I do?" (uh, plus a few words). I've got three articles I'm working on, so if anything 'weird' happens I'll let you know. So again, thanks for the info. --Rush 10:08, 28 August 2008 (CDT)

Spam

Thanks for the tip on spam. I find myself stumbling around in the dark a great deal of time and afraid I'll screw something up.

I've just caught onto the whole "add a picture" thing thanks to WOS, so I'll be running with that for a while and filling in some information on articles that interest me. I hope I'm not adding too much clutter with some of the pictures I add.

If I do bugger something, let me know, but for now, back to work on the ISS article.

Idea for the current events page:

I was "eavesdropping" on your note to WOS -- I hope that's not considered terrible manners here, let me know if it is. Anyway, I checked out the Current Events page and thought it might be good to also add something about CERN and the LHC to it, since that's of particular interest right now. We do have CERN which looks to be a well done, graphically interesting page.--americandingbat 23:24, 10 September 2008 (CDT)

The current event revamp page

I think that it is coming along wonderfully Optimist. I give you credit, I would be swamped trying too figure out those table codes trying to get everything even. Maybe instead of that you can add an image to the page and try and off-set it like that. I have to say, I am a little disappointed in myself that I haven't done anything to try and improve the 9/11 section. I have personal reasons for not trying to think about it too much, but it has been 7 years, and it is one of the most important, evil acts in human history. Right up there with the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima if you know what I am saying. Anyhow, the current event page is one of my favorite resources i9n this wiki, and you are doing a great job with it. I think that one of the other tables, or both depending on how you lay them out, should get a green border. But that is of course ultimately up to you. :~)William One Sac 18:26, 11 September 2008 (CDT)

Given the recent vandalism

Given the recent vandalism, do you think we should limit edits to persons who have an account and also give average users the ability to revert? Palzeta (How's That?, That's How!) (Inclusionistic Eventualist ) 12:03, 14 September 2008 (CDT)

stubs template editing

Hi Optimist,

I am a bit embarrased to say that I am not entirely certain why I made that edit to the stubs template. I think it has something to do with the page that has all of the templates on it. I kind of remember trying to get the image of the stubs template off of that page, but I am not certain. So what I have done for now is just reverted the template back to the last version before I made those changes. :-P Hopefully that will undo the problems you said we were having with the page that you described. William One Sac 21:25, 23 September 2008 (CDT)

Something curious

Hello Optimist,

I recently noticed something strange. If I go to the tinWiki mainpage via the link on top of ATS, the page shows that there are 909 articles now on tinWiki, and also shows that the last time it was refreshed was on Tuesday. However, if I go to the mainpage via the link I made on my personal website here, then the page shows that there are 906 articles. I am not sure why that this is. Too be honest, I have no clue at all why this is. Anyhow, I just found it interesting and thought you might as well. I don't know if it is a browser issue or not. I use internet explorer. William One Sac 10:38, 1 October 2008 (CDT)

main page revamp improvements

Hello Optimist,

I definitely agree with the improvements you have made to that first element on the main page revamp. I do think that the darker green is easier to read. Also, the larger font and putting all of the links in two columns is also much more pleasing visually. I think that the improvements are ready to go if you think so as well. On a side note, what I am planning on doing is to download a few different browsers so that I can see how different changes behave. William One Sac 21:11, 4 October 2008 (CDT)

the main page

Yes, Optimist, I agree that the new element on the main page looks very nice. Nice job on that. As you say we are approaching 1000 articles, it looks great to have the site looking good for this occation. William One Sac 11:25, 7 October 2008 (CDT)

MediaWiki Cite Extension?

Howdy, I was in the process of adding a few articles and I was crushed to find out Tin Wiki doesn't use the cite extension. Can you or someone else install the php script?

Thanks for all your hard-work Optimist.
