Vlad Dracula: the ImpalerFrom TinWiki.orgVlad III, Prince of Wallachia is also known as Vlad the Impaler or Dracula. Vlad was a ruler of parts of Romania in certain periods in the 1400's. He became feared for his grueling punishments that he imposed through out his rule. It is commonly thought that Vlad III was the inspiration for Bram Stokers novel which he wrote in 1897 entitled Dracula.
[edit] Vlad and the Order of the Dragon.
Vlad was a known member of the Order of the Dragon, or as it was in his native Romania Ordinul Dragonului. The order is thought of as being a knightly order of respectable members practicing chivalric deeds, it mainly consisted of nobles and royalty from a lot of European countries. Although it was highly thought of, its member ship can be frowned upon since some are highly controversial, such as our own Dracula who is mostly known as being inspiration for horror and a extreme torturer. The ideals of this group were set up as it was created by King Sigismund of Hungary in 1408, the ideology of it was to fight all enemies of the cross, all enemies of Christianity. the members of this group were known as Draconists. [edit] Name and Life.Vlad's last name is Drǎculea, this word does not have any connection to Vampires, or atleast it did't at that point in time. Drǎculea means son of Dracul, Dracul was his father. the word Dracul can be believed to say some evil words which would fit with Vlad's characteristics, some of them are the devil, Demon and dragon -- which ties in nicely with the order.
