The Yeti is said to combine certain traits of both the human and ape species, the native Sherpas of the Himalayan Mountains regard this creature as being an object of wonder. The Yeti is also referred to as the Abominable Snowman.

History

There have been reports of this creature ranging as far back as the fifteenth century, however it was not until the nineteenth century that interest in these beasts began to arouse the curiosity of the people from the west. A British officer named Major L.A Waddle was said to have been one of the first to discover large footprints in the snow, he related much of his findings in his book “ Among The Himalayas”. Since these first discoveries many westerners have claimed to have seen similar large footprints in the snow.


Descriptions

The native people of the Himalayas are said to regard the Yeti as having some sort of religious significance the creature is said to be both feared and protected by these people. The descriptions of the Yeti have differed greatly but many of the Sherpas have stated that it is a small squat animal and about the size of a fourteen year-old boy. They describe it as having either stiff red or black hair, a monkey like face but no tail that they can see.

Western view

The Westerners that have went in search of this creature have described it as being a stocky, apelike creature that stands roughly five to seven feet tall. They describe the fur as being either brown, black, or white. They say that it has a hairless face, massive teeth not fangs and large arms that dangle from its heavy rounded shoulders. They also describe the yeti as having no tail.

Behavior

The various people who have said that they have come into contact with the yeti have commented that the animal appears to walk on two legs, like an ape that is walking through snow. They also claim that when the Yeti is faced with danger it takes what they describe as an ape-like stance.

Foot prints

Many footprints are said to have been discovered by various people who have visited the Himalayas, they describe them as varying in size and some concluded that they were made by either men or creatures of the same species, only younger. The largest footprint discovered was 12 inches long, the toes were described as being much larger than that of a human, and clearly more opposable.
